From Arts and Crafts Fest to Alabama Feather Co: Diana’s Handmade Earring Designer Story has Fairhope Roots

If you’ve ever strolled the brick-lined sidewalks of Downtown Fairhope on First Friday, you know the feeling: live music drifting from open doors, art lovers spilling out of galleries, and shopkeepers greeting patrons by name.

Years ago—before we eventually rebranded to BluePrint Realty Company—our Jason Will Real Estate office sat right on the First Friday Art Walk tour, the second stop after the Eastern Shore Art Center. Like many local businesses, we leaned into the tradition of food, music, and artistry. Diana happened to be seeking out local Fairhope artists at the annual Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival to feature at our real estate office during First Friday Art Walks, when she fatefully found what would become her signature look.

A Feather Finds Its Owner

About a decade ago, Diana bought her first pair of gold feather earrings from Page & Palette in Fairhope. Not long after, at the Arts & Crafts Festival, she connected with a vendor who handmade leather feather earrings—lightweight, bold, and effortlessly Southern. She became a loyal customer, collecting multiple pairs that became part of her everyday style.

Then the unexpected happened: the vendor stopped responding, like literally vanished.

“So I Made My Own.”

By Summer of 2024 and in true Diana fashion, a closed door became an open studio. Determined to keep wearing the style that felt most her, she sketched and refined a silhouette that captured all the reasons she loved the originals: graceful movement, flattering length, feather-light comfort. She designed an original die cut and sourced a precision manufacturer in Japan to bring it to life.

What started as a personal solution quickly turned into something more. A real estate agent referral partner asked for a pair. Then a friends of clients and friends of friends began texting her orders. By October, Diana had a logo, a tiny workshop corner in her home, and a steady rhythm of business—a handful of pairs each week—enough to call it a side hustle and a new creative outlet to foster both connection and community.

Diana’s feather earrings became a natural bridge between her worlds—community, creativity, and connection. Through meet-ups, closings, and coffees, she found that gifting or wearing her earrings sparked warm conversations and new relationships, keeping her connected to her circle of influence while also nurturing her mortgage business with Mortgage Right of Birmingham.
